Climate-responsive design

Designing for our future climate
Designing for the future is central to KPMB’s work. We believe it is our responsibility to protect and sustain the natural environment while creating healthy, resilient spaces that foster well-being.
We help our clients develop climate-responsive solutions that achieve and go beyond industry standards. This includes energy-saving measures that decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, reducing upfront and whole-life cycle carbon emissions and addressing ecological health. We future-proof our projects to protect communities from climate risks and craft specific solutions for communities disproportionately affected by climate disasters.
Our holistic approach to design and sustainability is informed by KPMB Lab, research partnerships, and learnings from our Indigenous partnerships.
The Lab is integrated into every project from the outset, assisting project teams with carbon assessments, environmental analyses, building materials research, and more. With our in-house materials library, we prioritize informed material selection, choosing durable options that are healthy for people and the planet.
