The Center for Computing & Data Sciences at Boston University, now named the Duan Family Center for Computing & Data Sciences, received an Honorable Mention in the Architecture category at the 2024 AIA Canada Design Awards.
The Canadian chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the AIA Canada Society recognizes best practices, innovative thinking, and design excellence in the work of AIA Canada members and future design professionals each year.
The Center is Boston University’s first LEED Platinum building and one of the most sustainable buildings in Boston. Its robust geothermal system, energy-efficient strategies, water-efficient fixtures, low-carbon interior material palette, and green roofs are just some of the reasons why it has been called “the most environmentally friendly tower in the city.”
Located on the University’s central campus, it is an anchor connecting the University’s schools, colleges, centers, and labs. Since it opened, the core faculty associated with mathematics, computing, and data sciences at the University has tripled in size and course offerings have more than doubled. The Center has also been home to many community events, like the Civic Tech Hackathon, that use data science to tackle issues such as social justice and climate change.
