We’re pleased to share that founding partner Shirley Blumberg will serve as a juror for the 2024 AZ Awards.
Created by AZURE Magazine, the AZ Awards celebrate outstanding projects, products, and ideas from around the world. Last year, two KPMB projects — Harrison McCain Pavilion and Dream LeBreton — won AZ Awards.
To the jury, which includes Wanda Dalla Costa, Piero Lissoni, Jennifer Keesmaat, and Tosin Oshinowo, Blumberg brings her decades of expertise in architecture and design. A Member of the Order of Canada for her contributions to architecture and community, she has designed many of the firm’s (which she co-founded in 1987) noteworthy and award-winning projects. Her remarkable portfolio comprises academic, cultural, and socially responsible projects, including the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) Campus in Waterloo, Remai Modern in Saskatchewan, and prototypical housing for the northern Indigenous community of Fort Severn.
Inspired by the Order of Canada’s motto — “They desire a better country” — Blumberg co-founded BEAT (Building Equality in Architecture Toronto) in 2015, an independent organization focused on promoting equality and diversity in architecture and design. The organization has since grown to include chapters in Northern Canada (BEANorth), Atlantic Canada (BEAA) and the Prairies (BEAP & BEACalgary).
The AZ Awards is open for submissions until February 23. Winners will be announced on June 20.
