On March 6, founding partner Shirley Blumberg, will deliver a lecture on architecture’s expanding role in addressing global challenges at the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto, where she graduated from the architecture school.
Her lecture, which focuses on climate action, social equity, and community impact, is a part of the Daniels Faculty’s Winter 2025 Public Program, a series of free lectures, film screenings, and panel discussions happening at the architecture school until March 20.
Blumberg will share KPMB’s approach to reducing carbon emissions, addressing social inequities, creating public spaces, and fostering community through projects like the Harrison McCain Pavilion at Beaverbrook Art Gallery and the Montreal Holocaust Museum.
Throughout her career, Blumberg has been committed to designing inclusive, resilient communities. Her portfolio comprises cultural, academic, and affordable housing projects, including prototypical housing for the northern Indigenous community of Fort Severn, the Julis Romo Rabinowitz and Louis A. Simpson International Building at Princeton University, and the Landscape of Landmark Quality project at the University of Toronto.
Blumberg also initiated the formation of BEAT (Building Equality in Architecture Toronto) which supports women in architecture and design and in 2024, was awarded the Advocate for Architecture Award by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
