On September 24, partner Paulo Rocha and Dennis Carlberg, chief sustainability officer & associate vice president for climate action at Boston University, will present the Center for Computing & Data Sciences at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) International Conference.

Earlier this year, the Center received two CTBUH Awards of Excellence – Best Tall Building by Region, Americas, and Best Tall Building, by Height, Under 100 meters. The Best Tall Building Award recognizes projects that have made extraordinary contributions to advancing tall buildings and the urban environment and achieving sustainability and human well-being at the highest and broadest levels.

Rocha and Carlberg’s presentation will be part of a session highlighting the many innovative buildings that competed in the Best Tall Building categories. They will share lessons learned from working on the Center and speak about translating the University’s objectives and Climate Action Plan into actionable goals, designing climate-responsive tall buildings, developing geothermal solutions for a dense urban site, and setting new standards for high-performance, sustainable design.

The Center is a landmark for the University and Boston. It is the University’s first LEED Platinum building and one of the most sustainable buildings in the city. Its robust geothermal system, energy-efficient strategies, water-efficient fixtures, low-carbon interior material palette, and green roofs are just some of the reasons why it has been called “the most environmentally friendly tower in the city.”
