We’re excited to share that the Center for Computing & Data Sciences at Boston University is The Architect’s Newspaper Editors’ Pick in the Higher Education — Instructional category for their Best of Design Awards!
The Center is not your average tower. At 19 storeys and 345,000 square feet, it is the largest operationally fossil-fuel free building in Boston. Designed as a series of vertical, stacked neighbourhoods with cantilevered volumes, it fosters collaboration among 3000 students, faculty, and staff from previously dispersed departments, while offering each department its own identity and outdoor space.
The Center is also the University’s first LEED Platinum building, designed to meet the University’s Climate Action Plan’s goals, contribute to its carbon neutrality target by 2040, and contribute to Boston’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Since opening, the Center has supported the core fields associated with the interdisciplinary study of computing and data sciences. New courses and programs have been launched, including a Master of Science in Data Science program; more students and faculty have been welcomed (women now account for 47% of its 2028 Class); and over $3M in grants and contracts have been received for research and other data science initiatives.
