KPMB Architects — Student Internship

Start Date: January 2025 (exact dates TBD)

End Date: April 2025 (exact dates TBD)

Duration: 4 Months. There is an option to extend the contract based on project needs.

Our student internships are typically structured as 4-month, full-time paid positions in winter (Jan-Apr), summer (May-Aug), and fall (Sept-Dec). We’re currently accepting applications for the Winter 2025 term.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for curious and creative students passionate about architecture and design to join our team for a 4-month co-op term. As part of our highly collaborative environment, students will play a key role on an architectural project team, producing schematic, design development, and/or construction drawings. This opportunity is ideal for students who have completed at least three years of an Architectural Degree program or two years of an Architectural Technologist Diploma program.

KPMB’s diverse range of award-winning architectural projects offers students the unique opportunity to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry. We’re committed to nurturing a dynamic learning environment that immerses students in all phases of the architectural process, from hands-on experience on project teams to engaging in our firm-led Lunch and Learns and similar initiatives that dive deep into the firm’s projects.

Select responsibilities:

  • Assist an architectural project team with the production of schematic, design development and/or construction drawings
  • Participate in consultant coordination meetings and complete related tasks
  • Interpret technical information and apply it critically toward a design intent
  • Build physical models for working design tools and/or final presentations
  • Produce 3D images, renderings, animations, and presentation and promotional materials
  • Develop designs based on internal discussions and meetings with your project team.
  • Produce measured drawings from existing site conditions and/or existing drawings.
  • Curate material sample boards and contact suppliers for relevant information.

Candidate profile + qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Architecture (Completed Year 3) or an Architectural Technologist Diploma (Completed Year 2) at an accredited educational institution in Canada or from abroad with an approved student visa
  • Demonstrable proficiency in Revit (BIM) is mandatory
  • Proficiency in 3D modelling and renderings is mandatory (Systems experience may include Enscape, Sketchup, Rhino)
  • High level of proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, OR Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher
  • Proficiency in all other standard software, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent physical model-building and graphic skills
  • A strong team player capable of collaborating effectively within a team
  • Demonstrates design excellence in academic projects, showcasing a clear vision and the ability to articulate ideas effectively
  • A sharp thinker with the ability to quickly grasp concepts and identify connections among diverse information
  • An ambitious individual with well-defined goals and a strategic plan for achieving success
  • Proven reliability in project delivery, showing a comprehensive understanding of project scope, effective management skills, and collaborative abilities across both academic projects and previous internships.

Salary Range:
Compensation starts at an annualized base salary of $50,000.00.

Transportation and bike storage:
A daily free shuttle bus between Union Station and KPMB’s office is provided for all staff who use the subway system or GO transit, from Monday to Thursday. Underground bicycle parking is also available.
